Robert Goodacre appears to have been born around 1820 at Uffington in Lincolnshire, although no birth or baptism record has been found for him. His parents, Precious Pawley and John Goodacre, married at Thurlby near Bourne in Lincolnshire in June 1820, and all Robert's younger siblings appear to have been born there. The 1841 census finds Robert living there with his parents and siblings, with his father described as an innkeeper. By 1851 Robert's father had died and he was living at Thurlby with his mother, who was described as a farmer of 50 acres.
By 1861 Robert's mother was described as a licensed victualler and Robert was working as a farmer.
On 11th November 1862, Robert was married at Peterbough Cathedral to Sarah Ward, a cook who had been working for the Archdeacon of Northampton, who performed their marriage. After their marriage Robert and Sarah returned to Thurlby. They do not appear to have had any children. The 1871 census finds Robert and Sarah living in the Northorpe area of Thurlby, and Robert was farming 76 acres. They had one servant living with them.
In 1881 Robert and Sarah were at Holsworthy in Devon, some 250 miles from Thurlby. Robert was described as a farm bailiff. They later returned to Thurlby; Sarah died there in May 1889.
Robert survived her by just under ten years. He appears living alone on North Road in Thurlby in the 1891 census. He died at Thurlby on 29th January 1899, when he was said to be 79 years old.

Presumably date of burial is incorrect as both newspaper death notice and probate register give his date of death as 29th January. Perhaps should have said 2nd February for burial date.
