Notes: From Frank E. Block, Atlanta, Ga: It is believed that Robert Faris was one of a group of Lancaster County, PA Scotch-Irish Presbyterians who went in the 1740s to Augusta Co. VA and later to SC. An early group was in Union Co. by 1751, but Robert did not acquire a grant that early. He first appears in Union Co., SC in 1765 when he and others formed the Fair Forest Presbyterian Church. LAter he moved up Fair Forest Creek into Spartanburg Co. He served in the Tryon County Militia in 1771. He was a Captain during the Revolution. His estate administration dated 1 Jan 1785 lists Dorcas Faris, Hugh Means, William Patton and Andrew Mayes as administrators, bound in the sum of 2000 pounds, a sizeable estate. (Abbeville Dist.
