Robert H. Downey, 80, of Embarrass, Minn., passed away Monday Feb. 7, 2005 after a nine month battle with lung cancer. Robert was born Dec. 23, 1924 in New Brunswick, Canada. He was united in marriage to Marvel Alme on June 8, 1957 in Germany. Robert served with the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Royal Canadian Air Force. He retired in 1987 from Erie Mining Company (LTV). He was a member of the VFW Club of Sebeka, Minn. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Marvel; father, mother, and stepmother. Robert is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Downey (Kevin Onclin) of Cambell River, British Columbia, Canada, Betsy (Steve) Freeman of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Susan (Art) Amys of Poplar, Wis.; sons, Robert (Joan) of White Horse, Yukon Territory, Canada, James (Lois) of Elk River, Minn., Michael (Donna) of Sebeka, Minn.; grandchildren, Sarah and Chad Wetsch, Holly Onclin, Daniel, Michael and Kevin Freeman, Bradley, Becky, Andrew and Anna Amys, Jamie and James Downey, Rhonda, Michael and Stephen Curtis, Lacey Downey, and Stacy Signore; two great grandchildren; brothers and sisters Donald, Perley, Kenneth, Richard, Jean, Marion, Louise, Barbara, Brenda and their families; sisters in law Margy Clark and Evelyn Guechella. The family would like to thank Bruce and Bonnie Keller, Arline Hanson, Dr. Daniel Nikcevich, and the nurses and staff of St. Mary's who cared for Robert throughout his treatments.
