Parentage of Maj. Robert Cravens

The parentage of Robert Cravens has not been determined. He is probably a grandson of Robert Cravens, Sr. (I), of Augusta County (as also surmised by Wes Patterson, another Augusta County researcher). He is definitely NOT the son of John Cravens, Robert Craven Sr.'s eldest son, based upon a court case (Cravens vs. Lanahan) in Augusta County. That John Craven's son, "Robert Cravens, Jr., came of age about fall of 1785. He was 14 years old at death of his father, and died 10th December, 1793, intestate, unmarried and without issue", which rules this Robert out as his son.

This would leave either Joseph, William or Robert Cravens, John Craven's other brothers, as this Robert Craven's likely father. More research necessary.

It is not known how this Robert Cravens is related to the Cravens family of Augusta County. He is probably a grandson of Robert Cravens, Sr., an early settler of Augusta County, and son of one of Robert Cravens Sr.'s older sons.
