Robert COMIER, master naval carpenter from La Rochelle, France, contracted on 8 Jan 1644 to take the ship "Le Petit Saint-Pierre" with his wife Marie PE'RAUD and their son Thomas, to travel to fort Saint-Pierre on isle Cap-Breton in New France.

!BIRTH-OCCUPATION-MARRIAGE-CHILDREN-BURIAL: Bona Arsenault, HISTOIRE ET GENEALOGIE DES ACADIENS, vols. 1-6; 1630-1775; Quebec, Le Conseil de la Vie Francaise en Amerique, 1965; p. 494 (Port Royal); own copy. Born around 1610, a master carpenter, originally from La Rochelle [France], Robert married in France around 1634 to Marie PE'RAUD. They arrived at Saint-Pierre on the island of Cape Breton in 1644. He settled at Port Royal [Acadia] around 1650, and was buried there on 12 Feb 1712. [He would have been 102 years old!, according to Arsenault. Where does this exact date come from? More likely that Robert died before 1671 census.]

A footnote says that by virtue of a contract ("contrat d'engagement") at La Rochelle on 8 Jan 1644, "Robert CORMIER, naval carpenter, PERAUDE (PERRAULT) his wife and Thomas CORMIER, first son, living in this town, are bound, as they promised, to embark from the first day to the first requisition, in the ship "Petit Saint-Pierre" whose master is Pierre BOILEAU, in order to go to the Isle Cape Breton, in New France, and to work for the sieurs TUFFET, DUCHANIN and CHEVERY, in his profession of carpenter and other things which shall be ordered him by sieur Louis TUFFET, commandant of fort Saint-Pierre on said isle." Reference: Archange Godbout, MEMOIRES DE LA SOCIETE GENEALOGIQUE CANADIENNE-FRANCAISE, vol. IV, no. 3 (Jan 1951).

!CENSUS-DEATH: Neither Robert nor his wife appear on the 1671 census of Port Royal; but son Thomas does, age 35.

!BIRTH-MARRIAGE-DEATH: Robert CORMIER, born 1610 at LaRouchell [sic], France, married in 1644 [sic] to Marie PERAUD; son Thomas born 1636. Robert died in 1712 [sic].
