March 3, 1863.
In a certificate, dated March 3, 1863, Captain H. Bussey states that "Robert P. Connell, a private in Captain Bussey's Company (K) of the 27th Regiment of Geo. volunteers was born Talbot County GA, aged 31, 5 feet, 6 inches high, light complexion, blue eyes, auburn hair and by self-attribution a farmer, enlisted at Griffin Geo., September 21, 1861, to serve for the war and is entitled to discharge by reason of a surgeon's certificate of disability." The Certificate also states that Robert P. Connell was entitled to pay from September 21-October 31, 1861, a traveling allowance from Guinea's Station Va., the place of discharge, to Talbot Co., Geo., as well as compensation for clothing since September 21, 1861 and bounty. Records reflect that he was discharged on April 3, 1863 paid the amounts owing to him by the Army of Northern Virginia on April 6, 1863. Regimental Returns dated as late as February, 1862, reflect that he was "left in Georgia sick on October 31, 1861", but do not reflect when he arrived in Virginia, where he was discharged.
