1854: The Tiverton Marriage Notices of 1854 announced the intention of Richard Western, of Thorverton, to marry Mary Ann Norman, 20, also of Thorverton, at the Tiverton Baptist Chapel - per Ian Stoyle. The marriage certificate shows they were married 17 May, 1854 at the Baptist Chapel, Tiverton.

1856: On the 25 January 1856 birth certificate for his son Charles, Richard is listed as a Baker living in Thorverton.

1857: On the 11 December, 1857, birth certificate for his daughter Evelina, Richard is listed as a Farmer living at "Channings, Thorverton".

1860: On the 6 January 1860 birth certificate of his daughter Mary Ann, Richard is listed as a General Labourer, residing at Brimley Cottages, West Teignmouth.

1862: At the 25 March 1862 birth of his son Lewis Richard, the family is living at Buckridge Farm, West Teignmouth, Devon. Richard lists his occupation as gardner.
