Edited from the Mission Hills Country Club Newsletter Vol. 1 No. 4
… the Schug’s recently bought their Golf Course Villa at Mission Hills, and already it depicts’ their prolific interest.
The Schug’s are doing their own gardening, and Dr. Schug is laying and extra patio in brick. “I’ve always had a love affair with bricks.” said Dr. Schug. “ I put brick patios and walk-ways in our Catalina and Long Beach homes, and I’ll probably find a good many more places for them”
While Dr. Schug enjoys what he terms “hand labor,” both he and his wife Ferrel, have a serous interest in various forms of art.
Dr. Schug spent several years as a 6th Army Air Force surgeon stationed in Guatemala, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica and Panama. From these countries he collected examples of the culture, some of which are exhibited in the Mission Hills home. A fine collection of Samoan handicrafts (resulting from a boating venture with a royal Samoan chief) are also displayed at the villa.
Other involvements of the Schugs have been ownership of a cattle ranch, and airlines, and art dealership. One of their current outside interests is their 25 acres of lemon groves on the Oasis Slopes of the Coachella Valley.
