Richard Chitwood (m. 1789 Greenbrier Co, VA, Mary Cantley) was Major of 2nd Battalion of 1st Regiment, St. Louis County, MO Militia, in War of 1812. In his son, John C. Chitwood's Pension Application (served as Pvt in same Battalion), is described a skirmish near Arrow Rock with a group of Winnebagos who had been harrassing settlers in the area. This Richard Chitwood was son of Capt. James Chitwood, as proved by 1809 letter from St. Louis to James Chitwood (son of Capt. James) in North Carolina.
