"Mr. Rockwood, according to family tradition was living at Keene, NH in the year 1768, where his son Nathaniel was born. In the year 1776 he was a resident of Winchester, where he signed the Association Test; the following year in May,1777, he enlisted from Keene, as a private in a company commanded by Captain David Howlet from Col. Ashley's Regiment of the New Hampshire Militia which marched from Keene, to reinforce the Continental Army at Ticonderoga; he served until June 17, of that year, when he was honorably discharged. Probably he performed other services in the war of the revolution but the New Hampshire records show nothing further.

Not long after the close of the war Mr. Rockwood removed to Vermont, and from there to the state of New York. He settled finally in Champion, Jefferson Co., NY, where he spent the remainder of his life."

Note: Jefferson Co did not exist in 1776. Probably was Tryon Co, which was the source county, and which existed 1772 until 1784.
