Obituary Rebecca McClure Rebecca McClure, daughter of Abraham and Euphemia Simpson, was born on a farm near Middletown, Ohio, September 24, 1839. Age 80 years, 8 months and 17 days. She was married to Thomas Scott mcClure, November 14, 1855. To this union five children were born, all of whom survive her: John McClure, living near Springboro, Mrs. James McClellan near Blue Ball, William S. McClure, Dayton, Howard McClure on the home stead and Mrs. Harry Ralston west of Lebanon. (Mom would visit Ralstons.) Her husband having preceded her to the great Beyond almost exactly 49 years ago, leaving this young mother the responsibility of rearing five small children, the youngest being but six months of age. She was always mother, guardian, consellor, companion and guide to her growing children; while she was of a quiet, gentle and retiring disposition, but few women ever possessed the dignity and courage of this little mother. Mrs. McClure became a Christian in early life. Her parents were members of the Dick's Creek Presbyterian Church, she also joined the same church and was a consistent member, until its removal to Blue Ball, of which place she was a member at the time of her death. Through her long illness of ten months she was tenderly cared for by loving hands. She was calm and unmoved by the fear of death, her mind was never in darkness. "She knew in whom she had believed." The silent influence of such a mother shall last for generations to come. Five children, seven grandsons and seven granddaughters shall forever cherish the memory of mother and grandmother. Just as the shadows of evening were gathering, on Friday, June 11, she grew so weary and peacefully fell asleep. "Silently the shades of evening, Gather round my lonely door, Silently they bring before me Faces I shall see no more."

The 1903 map of Franklin Township shows Mrs. McClure owning 127.5 acres, in section 27, in the South East corner of Range IV."

Rebecca mcClure died in 1920 at the age of 81, after an illness of 10 months, tended by "loving hands." She is buried beside her husband in the Middletown Pioneer Cemetery on First Avenue, not far from her parents, Abraham and Euphemia Simpson, and some other members of her family.
