Acquistion of Land in Frederick County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants 1742-1775, Vol. 2:

  • O-137: Ralph Wormley Esq. of Middlesex County, possesses 8,007 acres on Shannondoah River in Frederick County, formerly granted Mann Page Esq. 23 Sept. 1730 and became property of his son Mann Page who sold to Wormley (records of the General Court). Resurveyed, 2 April 1765 by Mr. Thomas Rutherford shows 3,709 acres surplus. Caveat entered by Mr. John Hough of Loudoun County in behalf of Col. George Mercer who had purchased of Edward Snickers a tract surveyed for said Snickers in bounds of above tract also in behalf of Joshua Gore Jr. who had purchased from said Hough one other tract of land in bounds and had unjustly obtained a Deed for same in name of said Gore. Caveat by consent of said Wormley & Hough being left to Messrs Gabriel Jones, Peter Hogg & Thomas Bryan Martin who determined that Hough should reconvey same to Wormley (by Articles of Agreement entered into by said parties and by Award of Arbitrators and recorded in County of Frederick). 11,718 acres to Wormley.
