Critical information from Bonnie Reeves: "The proof I found on Rachel being the daughter of Daniel Halsey is in Salisbury NC library and court records. Salisbury is and was the hub of Rowan Co. I will copy the 1759 militia ship (mispelled) to administer the estate of his Father-in-law. That pretty much says to me that Rachel was the daughter of Daniel Halsey. Also she must be the only surviving heir. Maybe the whole family was killed by Indians. She was living in a different location with her husband? I cannot find any Halseys on any tax list after that period or any later census. The Cherokee did attack Rowan Co. settlers in 1759 right after the English had been beaten by the French."

Notes primarily from Bonnie Reeves: "Rachel was the daughter of Daniel Halsey from West Jersey, probably the only child" The Hans Lycan and Halsey families spent some time in Frederick Co, VA before moving to Rowan Co, NC in the early 1750s. WFT Vol 17 Tree 1307 entry supports assumption Rachel was married before Indains killed Daniel Halsey. This tree says Jacob Gooden Lycan was son of Hans & Rachel and was b Dec 24, 1758 therefore Rachel was in Hans Lycan household when Daniel Halsey was killed in 1759. This would explain why she is only named heir for her father in the Executor Ship papers filed by her husband Hans Lycan.
