From the Mentone Tri-County Gazette; July 18, 1912:

Death has again entered our community and claimed for its victim Pierce Engle; son of George & Sarah Engle. Born Jan 1, 1872, departed this life July 8, 1912 aged 40 years 6 months 8 days. At 18 he professed faith Christ and united with the Baptist Church at Sevastopol. He was true to his faith and lived a consistent Christian the rest of his life. He leaves a wife, one son, six brothers, three sisters and many friends to mourn his loss. His father and mother having preceeded him to the spirit world. The funeral was preached by Rev. F. B. Nafe at the Sevastopol church and the body was laid to rest in the Mentone cemetery. The family and near relatives wish to express their thanks for the many kind acts which was shown by friends and neighbors in this their hour of sadness.
