  3.   Both Grafton VRs, p. 175, and Hopkinton VRs, p. 233, both show the intentions of marriage between Peter Brooks of Grafton, and Lydia Hayden of Hopkinton, dated 23 Sep 1749. Source:Smith, Dean Crawford. Ancestry of Eva Belle Kempton 1878-1908, p. 224, suggests this is Lydia Hayden, d/o Elisha Hayden and Lydia Fairbanks. However, it appears the marriage did not occur. Not only did Peter marry 8 Jan 1752 Rebecca Ball, but that Lydia Hayden, the only apparent candidate, m. 9 Jan 1752 James Mores [Moore], as shown by her father's probate in 1759 where an expense is charged against the estate by the widow (who is adminitratrix), "To Cash paid to my son Moor to Buy D'o [i.e., "ditto", meaning articles for mourning] for his wife". No other daughter would fit this description. Unfortunately the rest of the probate merely refers to her as Lydia, missing a great opportunity to be more explicit. But as both young people appear to have gone off and married other people barely two years later, it seems very unlikely that they actually married each other.
