The Wiggins' insurance man asked if he could take Paul home with him for the weekend. He never brought him back. Whenever he tried, Paul would cry and not want to go home. So, Paul ended up living with the Thompsons. When Paul went into the military, he asked that he be allowed to go with the last name of Thompson and they allowed him to do so. He never took his own name of Wiggins back. He was raised by William McKinley and Lucy Maude Pickard Thompson within five miles of his mother.
