PATRICK J. RYAN. MANCHESTER, Nov. 8. - Funeral services were held on Wednesday at Carthage, N.Y., for Patrick J. Ryan, for more than 25 years a resident here and active in the business activities of the town, who died at his winter home at Daytona Beach, Fla on October 31. A native of Killala, County Mayo, Ireland, he was about 75 years old and had come to this country at the age of 25. He first went to Castorland, N.Y., where he was engaged in lumbering. Later he became the superintendent in a sawmill at Wanakena, N.Y., and was associated with the late George F. Schlieder, with whom he operated under the name of Ryan & Schlieder. In 1913 Mr. Ryan, in company with others, came to Manchester, where the firm, Rich Lumber company, was formed and here they built up a section of Manchester, known as Richville. After a few years the firm ceased to be active and Mr. Ryan helped to form the N. D. Cass company which manufactured toys here until the plant burned down in 1925. He later formed the firm of Ryan & Schlieder with Leland Schlieder. This firm also engaged in the coal and fuel business. In 1925 Mr. Ryan married Mrs. George Schlieder, the widow of his long time business associate. After retirement from active business life, Mr. and Mrs. Ryan began spending winters in Daytona Beach. In 1937 they erected a home there to spend their winters. He leaves his wife, a sister in Denver, Colo., and sisters and brothers in Ireland; also nephews and nieces in this country. He was a member of Adoniram lodge, F. & A. M., of Manchester.
