Bedford 6 Sep 1831. "The subscribers hereby Certify that we think it necessary that a Guardian should be appointed for Anna Winship Reed & Hannah Malvina S. Reed, Children of Otis Reed late of Bedford deceased and under the age of fourteen years, and we hereby recomend John Merriam Esquire of said Bedford as a suitable Person to be appointed to that trust." Signed Hannah Reed, along with Reuben Brown and Joseph Brown, selectmen of Bedford. 6 Sep 1831: Memorial of John Merriam of Bedford that "Anna W. Reed & Hannah M. S. Reed are under the age of fourteen years & children of Otis Reed & Emily Reed his wife late of said Bedford who are both decd; that it is necessary a guardian should be appointed to them; that their grandmother, who is next of kin, has requested that your Petitioner should be appointed to that trust." Approved. 6 Sep 1831: Bond of John Merriam Esquire as guardian of Anna W. Reed & Hannah M. S. Reed, minors under the age of fourteen years & children of Otis Reed, late of said Bedford, gentleman, decd. 21 May 1839: John Merriam asks to be relieved and suggests Reuben Bacon Esquire of Bedford as a suitable guardian. 21 May 1839: "Malvina S. Reed a minor above the age of 14 ... made choice of Reuben Bacon esq'r of said Bedford to be her guardian". 21 May 1839: Bond of Reuben Bacon of Bedford as guardian of Melvina S. Reed a minor above the age of fourteen years & daughter of Otis Reed late of said Bedford, deceased.
