    Oliver P. Miller was born in Parke county Iowa June 23, 1842, and died at his farm home, Menlo Iowa Nov. 6, 1914 aged seventy-two years four months and thirteen days. He was converted to the church of God under the labors of Elder A. L. Nye in 1862 and lived a consistent Christian the rest of his life. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Boyd December 11, 1865. To them were born seven children. Mrs. Mary E. Cabbage, Hazleton, North Dakota; Joseph S. and Enos B., Menlo, Iowa; Perry L., Casey, Iowa;. Anna Boots and Mrs. Alice Doherty, Stuart, Iowa. There are surviving the widow, twenty-three grandchildren besides the above children and three brothers and one sister, John F. and James B. Menlo, Iowa and Simon P. Fonda, Iowa and Mrs. Martha Messenger, Menlo, Iowa. Mr. Miller was a solider of the rebellion in Co. I 29th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry from 1862 to 1865. He was a valuable contributor to a number of papers of the nearby towns for a number of years. The services were held in the Glendon Bethel on Sunday Nov. 8. The attendance was extremely large, showing the esteem in which he was held by his neighbors. Sermon by a former pastor, Elder L. F. Chamberlin, of Princeton Iowa from Psalms 92:12, 14.

    Oliver P. Miller was born June 23, 1842, in Parke County, Indiana, and is the son of Enos and Rufa Ann (Switzer) Miller. He moved with his parents to Des Moines in the fall of 1851, and came to Jackson township in the spring of 1852. In December, 1865, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Boyd, a daughter of John and Melinda (Pernell) Boyd. They have seven children -- Mary E., Joseph, Enos B., Perry L., Rufa Ann, James R. and Elizabeth A. M. Oliver came to this township in the fall of 1867, and settled on section 5, where he owns two hundred acres of land, mostly under cultivation. In August, 1862, he enlisted in Company I, 29th Iowa infantry, and took part in the engagements at Helena, Fort Pemberton, Little Rock, Jenkins' Ferry, Spanish Fort, Fort Blakely and Whistler. He was discharged at Davenport in August, 1865. He is a member of William Hill Post No. 41, of which he is adjutant.
