For the most recent and scholarly research on Nicholas Wade and five generations of his descendants, please see Richard H. Benson, The Nicholas Wade Family (Newbury Street Press, imprint of the New England Historical and Genealogical Society; 2012).

Per Richard H. Benson, The Nicholas Wade Family (Newbury Street Press, imprint of the New England Historical and Genealogical Society; 2012), the origins of Nicholas Wade remain unknown. Below are verbatim excerpts:

Preface, page vii: “The statement that Nicholas [Wade] was a native of Denver, Norfolk, [England,] is based on a belief that he was a brother of Jonathan Wade of Ipswich, Massachusetts, first suggested by Samuel Deane in 1831. Jonathan may have been from Norfolk, as he owned land there, but no record of him has been found there. No primary evidence has been found supporting a relationship of Nicholas with Jonathan. Also no record of Nicholas has been found in Norfolk.” Chapter 1, “Nicholas Wade, The Immigrant,” page 1: “Nicholas probably arrived in the summer of 1638. We do not know where he was from in England.”
