Will of Nicholas Stickel, 21 January 1788

Dutchess County S.S.

In the name of God Amen, I Nicholas Stickel of Rhinebeck precinct in the county of Dutchess, being of sound mind and disposing memory and understanding do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following.
Impremis I give and bequeath unto my grandson Nicholas Marte the sum of eight pounds.
Item I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Margrit Hummel wife of Peter Hummel the sum of six pounds.
Item I give and bequest unto my loving wife Sara two blankets one straw bed two sheets two pillows to pillo cases.
Item I give bequeath to my loving wife Sara one equal seventh part of my personal estate excepting my hous furniture.
Item I give and bequeath unto my daughters Mary Elisabeth Kranckheit, Susanna Kreisler, Catherine Segendorph, Magdelina Simon each one seventh part of my personal estate share and share alike.
Item I give and bequeath unto the representatives of my daughter Anna Barbara Marte which she had by Jacob Marte deceased one equal seventh part of my personal estate.
Item I give and bequeath unto the representatives of my daughter Margit Fero one equal seventh part of my personal estate and to their executors and administrators share and share alike that is the representatives as aforesaid of my said deceased daughter to take such part or share as their respective mothers would have taken if alive. That is to say the said children of my daughter Anna Barbara Marte as aforesaid the one seventh part and the children of my daughter Margreet Fero one other seventh parts. and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Andrew Stickel, William Pitcher and Johannis Young executors of this my last will & testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight
Nicolas Stickel Signed sealed published and declared by the said Nicholas Stickle and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our hands as witness: Gideon Young, Elias Young, David Young Dutchess County.

Be it remembered that on the ninth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety personally came and appeared before me, Gilbert Livingston Surrogate of the said county David Young of Rhinebeck town, farmer and being duly sworn on his oath declared that he did see Nicholas Stickel sign and seal the preceeding written instrument purporting to be the will of the said Nicholas Stickel bearing date the twenty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament. That at the time thereof he the said Nicholas Stickel was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of him the deponant and that Gideon Young Elias Young and the deponent severally subscribed the said will as witnesses thereto in the testators present Gilbert Livingston.
Surrogate SEAL The People of the state of New York by the Grace of God free and independent To all to whom these presents shall come or may concern. send greeting. Know ye that at Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County on the ninth day of February in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety before Gilbert Livingston Esq. Surrogate of our said county, the last will and testament of Nicholas Stickel deceased (a copy whereof is hereunto annexed) was proved and is now approved and allowed of by us and the said deceased having whilst he lived and at the time of his death goods, chattels or credits within this state by means whereof the proving and registering the said will and the granting administration of all and singular the said goods chattels and credits and also the auditing allowing and final discharging the amout thereof doth belong unto us; the administration of all and singular the goods and chattels of the said deceased and any way concerning his will is granted unto Andrew Stickel and Johannis Young two of the executors in the said will named they being first duly sworn well and faithfilly to administer the same and to make and exhibit a true and perfect inventory of all and singilar the said goods, chattels and credits and also to render a just and true accouint thereof when thereunto required. In testimony whereof we have caused the seal of office of our said surrogate to be here unto affixed. Witness Gilbert Livingston Esquire Surrogate of the said county at Poughkeepsie the tenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety and of our Independence the fourteenth.
