Nicholas's educational advantages were poor, he was unable to write unt il after his 21st birthday, but by close application, he soon afterward ac quired the rudiments of a common school education & became one of the mo st prominent of the early officials of Liberty Twp. He held the offi ce of constable for 11 years, also the offices of assessor & land apprais er & was a 1st Lt. of the early militia company of the Twp.
