Fred Rosenberger and his family removed from Jefferson CO West Virgin ia in 1826 to Seneca CO OH & in the spring of 1827, they built their ho me in Liberty Twp. Theirs was the third home in the township & in thier ho use was assembled the first meeting for divine worship to be held. They en tered 240 acres of land in Sec. 4, where in 1829, Frederick built the fir st saw-mill in the township & in 1831 added the first grist-mill, the sa me year he assisted in building on the line between Secs. 7 & 8, the fir st schoolhouse. Their journey was a hazardous one, in many places the stre ams were unbridged & the road lay through dense forest, showing that the w ork of civilization had scarcely begun. They arrived at thier destinati on & settled upon a tract of 160 acres in Hopewell Twp making their ho me there for two years, they then removed to Liberty Twp. & entered 240 ac res of wild land from the government on which they built a log cabin & al so a saw-mill operated by water power, they spent their remaining da ys on this homestead. Frederick took considerable interest in public affai rs & was recognized as a man of prominence & influence in the communit y. He served as trustee & his opinions did not a little in shaping the pub lic policy. He held membership in the United Brethren Church, to which h is wife also belonged.
