Notes on the Spouse of Nicholas Jones

  • Note of Caution: the Harleian MS, No. 4, 181, folio 247 incorrectly lists the widow of Nicholas Jones, son and heir of William Jones, Recorder of Abergavenny as "Anne" Hopton, who would later marry Sir James Morgan. This error is propagated in later genealogies, including Morgan (1902)2, etc. Scroggins (2009)1 has presented proof that it was not Anne, but rather Alice Hopton who married 1st Nicholas Jones in 1683 and 2nd Sir James Morgan in 1695.
