"David, the fourth son of John Eby, was born in 1813. For some reason he wrote his name Ebi. He was married to a Miss Shelhammer. They resided in Michigan and had a family of eight children, six sons and two daughters. Their names are Samuel, Nelson, Daniel, David, James, Ulysses, Rachel and Amanda. After the death of his wife David Ebi spent some time in the far West. He built the first Methodist church in what was then the Territory of Colorado. With his second wife (a Mrs. Koehler) he took a trip to California, where he spent some time with his sons. His home is now in the village of Vistula, Elkhart County, Indiana."
