- ↑ Place of birth also given as Phillips, Franklin Co., ME.
- ↑ Spouses?
We have reason to believe that Nathaniel was married to Abigail Beedy and that she was the mother of his children (b. 1829-1856).
In the 1850 Census we find Nathaniel in Franklin Co., ME with a wife named Sally. She is the same age as Abigail Beedy, but Sally would be an unusual nickname for Abigail. Is she Abby or a second wife. If this is a 2nd wife, the 3 month old child, Chapin, is most likely hers. Does Nathaniel's youngest daughter, Ellen, belong to this wife or an additional wife?
In 1860 we find Nathaniel in Errol, NH with a wife named Sally, several children with the surname McGile (or McGill - b. 1842-1852), and 2 Marden children. The Marden children help to confirm he is the same Nathaniel with family in Maine. This woman is 6 years younger than Abigail. We have not been able to locate any additional information concerning the McGile family or this 2nd/3rd wife [Jan-2007 -NL].

- ↑ He claimed to be 44 at the time of his enlistment.
- ↑ He gives his residence as Granby, VT but enlists (again at age 44) at Augusta, ME in a Maine Infantry Regiment. This man is buried at Arlington National Cemetery and is very likely the same man that served earlier in the 12th Maine Infantry.
