- ↑ Birth?
In the 1790 Census of Concord, NH, Edward Mardin (the Rev. Soldier) is shown with one other male in the household and that male is under the age of 16. Therefore Edward's (the Rev. Soldier) son was born between 1775 and 1790. In the 1800 Census, Edward's (the Rev. Soldier) son is 10-16 years of age so born between 1784 and 1790. In the 1810 Census, Edward Jr. is between the age of 16 and 25, therefore born between 1785 and 1794. In 1820, Edward (the Rev. Soldier) stated in his pension record that he had a son "of age" (21 or older), therefore born before 1799. In the 1830 Census, Edward of Albany VT is age 40-50. In the 1840 Census, Edward of Albany VT is between the age of 50 and 60. In the 1870 Census, Edward of Albany VT lists his age as 85, therefore born about 1785. Based on census ages, I believe Edward was born about 1785. The birth year of 1779 suggested by Edward's grandson, Riley Hull Marden (age about 50 at the time), is an error on his part or perhaps a transcription error during the publishing of the David Annis genealogy. In support of this later birth date for Edward Jr., Edward Sr. was a Ranger serving in the Northern Theater from 1776-1783. It is not impossible, but it is unlikely he had time to start a family before his discharge from service.
- ↑ Connections?
We currently have no proof that Edward Jr is the son of Edward (the RW soldier), found listed in the 1810 Lyman census. However, we do know the elder Edward is the same person that served in the Rev. War and he did have a son with his own family in 1820. Since no other Mardens are found in Lyman in this time period, it is reasonable to speculate the two are father and son.
- ↑ Connections?
I have not found any proof to date that Hamilton is the son of this Edward, but earlier genealogists list him as a son by Rebecca Jameson.
- ↑ Heritage?
Oral family history suggests the wife or mother of Edward Marden was an Indian woman. Edward's wife, Elizabeth Annis, is well documented in the "Genealogy of David Annis ...". Therefore, it is not unreasonable to speculate that it was Edward's mother that was an Indian. The oral history of Native ancestry is found in more than one line of descent from Edward. Some of Edward's children have Native physical characteristics as well. Our research suggests she would be of Abenaki heritage.
- ↑ Spouses?
We are certain Elizabeth Annis was the wife of this Edward (Marden correspondence in the published David Annis Genealogy). There is also a marriage record in VT for Edward Marden & Lydia Edson and we do find Edward and Lydia in Albany VT in the 1860 Census, so it seems very likely the marriage record is for this Edward, who lived in Albany as early as 1830 and as late as 1870. At least one manuscript genealogy claims Rebecca Jameson & her son Hamilton Mardin belong to this Edward. I suggest they might belong to another Edward of similar age living in NH. We need to find a record that could definitively tie this Edward and Hamilton together as father and son.
