  4. Two sources indicate the birth year is incomplete. However, it appears that the Winchendon VRs lead us astray by guessing the year should be 1787. A man born in 1787 would be too young to marry in 1801. If this is based on solid, documentary evidence, it would mean that this isn't the Nathaniel Barrett who married Lydia Batchellor.

However, no source for this suggestion is indicated, and it is assumed to be a guess to fit between siblings. So the guess is assumed to be wrong. This is supported by the 1830 census which gives Nathaniel's age as 50-60. (In other words, born between 1770 and 1780. Note: 1810 said 26-45, so born 1766-1784, and 1820 also said 26-45, so born 1776-1794. Combined this gives his birth as 1776-1780.)

Based on sibling births, notably Thornton Jr. 27 Mar 1777, and Samuel 9 Aug 1781, one would be inclined to assume the birth is 15 Jul 1779 to be half way between, and consistent with the age in 1830. However, Jackson gives the partial year as "178-", and noting that 1780 could still be consistent with the 1830 census if it was taken after July, 15 Jul 1780 seems consistent with all the sources, except the doubtful guess added by the compilers of the Winchendon VRs.
