Biography

Thomas married Nancy Quesenberry in Montgomery County on June 25, 1790; his wife is thought to be the daughter of George Quesenberry who was surety on the marriage bond. Nancy Quesenberry Richardson is referred to as Ann in the deeds, but many of the Nancys of her day were called Ann. Thomas entered 100 acres on Bobbitts Creek, adjoining his father’s 250 acre tract (Wythe, Entry 1-92); it was surveyed and he received the grant in 1796. As indicated he sold his father’s 180 acre tract to Samuel Chew; the reason is not clear, but there is some suggestion that Chew had bought the property from old John but never obtained a deed. Thomas may have been trying to wind up his father’s business, or he may have thought that he had inherited it. Thomas sold his own land to Samuel Carey in 1801 (Grayson, D. B. 1-438); the deed indicates that Thomas’ survey had overlapped with his father’s and Thomas only owned 87 acres. He is not found in the Grayson tax lists after 1801, so it is clear that he moved away.
