Hello cousins and fellow researchers,

I began serious genealogy research several years ago. I consider myself a novice and a hobbyist, but hope to increase my skills, knowledge, and experience to a professional level over the next few years.

My proven and certain ancestors include Carrs, Cunninghams, and Daughertys from County Donegal in Ireland, as well as McCrackens, O'Connors and McCoys from other parts of Ireland and Scotland. My Washburn and Harris ancestors hail from England, Orths from Prussia/Germany; other lines remain to be traced beyond their immigration to North America.

My original goal remains my priority: to assure that my grandchildren have access to a body of knowledge about their ancestors, that they know more than I did as they grow up about where their ancestors footsteps fell and the parts they played in history. Genealogy research has ignited a passion in me for history: I cannot help but believe that, had I known at the time of my early schooling that my 2nd great-grandfather fought and was injured in the battle of Shiloh, that chapter in my history textbook would have come alive for me.

Because my primary goal involves my grandchildren, my research includes the lines of my children's paternal ancestors, as well as those of my children's spouses and partners. These include Zinns, Uhlrigs, and Bests from Germany; Madisons and Hornbecks from England; Downeys and McEnenys from Ireland; Cherokee lines from Tennesse through southern Missouri and Kansas, and many more.

Most of our European immigrant ancestors traveled from various points on the East Coast through Kentucky or Indiana and settled in Illinois, Iowa, and northern Missouri in the mid-1800's.

Bringing that into the present, I was born in Illinois and grew up in the Kansas City area on the Missouri side. I raised my children in my current hometown, Lawrence, Kansas. The area where I live is rich in history related to the Civil War, providing endless opportunities to bring my newfound passion for historical studies to life.

I hope to find and share here with cousins and other researchers. I am very new to the Wiki-world, but I have been working on a private wiki set up for living family, near and far, to share more personal and current details. If you are immediate family or a first degree relative and are interested in participating there, let me know and I will invite you to join.
