In 1880, Asa, Jr. said his mother was born in Ireland. There was little Irish immigration before the 1830's. Even then, they concentrated in the cities with industry to offer for work. The Irish immigrants in the area of New London or Acworth were, however, Irish born Scots. They left Scotland in the early 1600's settling in northern Ireland and staying very much to themselves, marrying their own and keeping their own Protestant Scottish churches. This is most likely Nancy's orgin. Her family may have come to Acworth from Londonderry, New Hampshire or Worchester, Massachusetts. No birth record has been found for her in New Hampshire.
