Asa was a man of some property, He laid out the town of Gaysport, Ohio after purchasing the land from Jacob Ayers, and named it for himself. He willed to the town, land for the cemetery, and money for a school/meeting house. In the 1850 census, the value of his property is listed as $10,000. He received 4 land patents in Muskingum County. Refs: Hinshaw's Quaker Gen., Census 1800-1810 Lincoln County, Maine, 1820 Licking County, Ohio, 1840-1850 Musk County; His will & tombstone; Musk County history; Rockland, Maine town history. In 1840, Asa has only one child still at home, a male age 10-14, making him born in the late 1820's. All of Asa's children were born in Maine before they came to Ohio about 1813-1814.
