EXETER — Mildred Harriet "Millie" McGrath, 83, of 81 High St., died Monday, June 7, 2004, at the Eventide Home, Exeter, after a lengthy and courageous battle with heart disease.
She was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Frederick J. and Marie (Uhlenbert) Irwin. She had resided in the San Francisco Bay area for most of her life moving to Exeter in her later years.
She was a 1938 graduate of Sequoia High School, Redwood City, Calif., and was a 1942 graduate of San Jose State University.
Ms. McGrath was an elementary school teacher in the Redwood City School District from 1953 until her retirement in 1980. After her retirement she served as a volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif., and the El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, Calif. She also worked part-time traveling from school to school and reading stories for the Redwood City School District. In her later years, she volunteered at Exeter Hospital and worked as a substitute teacher in Exeter schools.
During World War II she worked in the Cryptology section of the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) in Arlington, VA.
She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Pamela V. and Edward C Frederick of Brentwood; one son, Frederick S. Veregge of Bangkok, Thailand; two grandsons; one sister, Eleanor I. Garcia, of Cupertino, Calif.; and one niece and two nephews.
At the request of the deceased there will only be a private memorial ceremony. Memorial donations may be made to: Eventide Home, 81 High Street, Exeter, NH 03833.

MILDRED H. McGRATH Exeter, New Hampshire - Mildred Harriet "Millie" McGrath, 83, of 81 High Street, Exeter, NH, died June 7, 2004 at the Eventide Home in Exeter after a long and courageous battle with heart disease.
