Mildred Elsie "Millie" Hines was born April 19, 1926, the daughter of Clifford Emery Hines and Grace Elsie Geiberger Hines in Madison, South Dakota. Millie died September 12, 2011 at the age of 85 in her home in Perry, Iowa. Millie grew up in Madison and graduated high school there in 1943. She worked at Madison Creamery and Wenk's chicken factory in Madison. She was united in marriage with Ramon McLuen on December 14, 1957 and they lived in Perry. Millie managed the Perry swimming pool and was head of the Perry Learn To Swim program where she taught many to swim. Millie also enjoyed her years as a Para Educator in the Perry schools. Many people fondly remember her from school and the swimming pool. She was always very involved with her own children, as well as all children, leading Bluebirds, coaching softball, as well as other activities. Millie was incredibly supportive of her grandchildren. She was awarded Mother of the Year in 1988. Millie was a member of the Episcopal Church and a proud member of the Democratic Party, where she often volunteered. She enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling, and wintering in Texas with Ramon. Millie was an avid reader, devouring many novels each week. Millie is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Emery Hines, a sister Evelyn Welch, and her son Pat McLuen. Millie is survived by her husband, Ramon; her children; Roy McLuen and wife Kathy of Seattle, WA, Craig Gimpel and wife Dora of Phoenix, AZ, Peggy Coleman and husband Ed of Perry, and Sally McLuen of Creston; 13 grandchildren: Sonia, Roy, Megan, Patrick, Michael, Craig, Caesar, Javier, Eli, Seth, Gracie, Zach and Scott; 12 great-grandchildren: Stephanie, Joan, Will, Alex, Camron, Nicky, Benjamin, Anika, Atticus, Jace, Skiedyn, and Delilah; brothers: Les, Ernest, Dick, Charlie, Harold, and Wayne; a sister, Shirley; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
