It is possible that Capt. James Russell and his family was with his father in the 1810 Census.

Thus the three Russell heads of family in the 1790 Cheraws District from which Darlington County was formed, i.e. Michael Russell, James Russell and another James Russell had a total of eight male children. It is assumed that the older James was a brother of Michael and the younger James was his son. All the males with Michael have been identified by his will, except the male over 16 and a male below 16 who could be brothers of Michael or brothers -in-law.

We have the following males born before 1790: Michael, Jr. born 1784 presumed to be a son of James; James Jr. b. 1765 to 1784 presumed to be a bother of Michael, Jr. was was an executor of his will in 1812 and stated in his will that he wanted to be buried with his mother and father who obviously preceded him; William born 1765 to 1784 and died before the 1820 census presumed to be another brother of Michael, Jr.

Stephen born before 1765 was not listed separately in the 1800 census and either was with Michael, Sr. or elsewhere. The same for Dempsey born 1765-1784 who had a male in the same age bracket living with him in the 1810 census."

"The Russell line probably comes from the John Russell of Onslow Co., NC who died leaving a will in 1753 naming sons James, Michael and Peter Russell. They left for the Cheraws in 1770's, now called Darlington Co., SC. James and Michael probably married the Gould sisters in Onslow (Mary and Ruth Gould, daus. of Severous Gould)."
