BOY KILLED BY GUNSHOT -- Michael Groh - His Death Accidental ----------- ( Weapon in Playmate's Hands Takes Life of Michael Groh, Holt ) --------- The fatal shooting of 13-year old rural Holt boy by his 14 year-old pal late Tuesday afternoon was ruled accidental Wednesday. Michael Groh, son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles Groh, 2185 Coolidge Rd, Holt was the victim. Coroner Harry Leadley made the ruling of the accidental shooting following investigation at the scene of the shooting at the home of Rodney Bordner, 14, of 4636 Krental Ave. Holt. The fatal charge was triggered by the Bordner youth accidentally, the coroner ruled, while they were inspecting guns at the Bordner home. The parents were not home at the time. Earlier, he said, the boys had been inspecting guns at the Groh home. Sheriff's deputies said the Groh boy was struck full in the chest as he stood near the door of the Bordner home. They said he staggered out the door and collapsed in the driveway, where he died. Officers said Bordner took a 410-gauge shotgun from a rack in the bedroom, then apparently closed the bolt - this action putting the shell into the gun's chamber. They said he then went into the living room where young Groh was standing near the door. It was then, they added, that the Bordner youth told them that his finger accidentally touched the trigger, causing the fatal shot. They said the Bordner youth told them he wanted to show his friend how the clip looked in the gun. In addition to being fast friends, the boys belonged to he smae Boy Scout Troop and both were in the ninth grade at Holt High School. The Body was taken to the Estes-Leadley Chapel at Holt. Surviving, besides the parents are a sister, Judy, at home; the grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Elroy Groh of Stockbridge, and Mrs. Ada Farr of Holt; and the great-grandmother, Mrs. Ruben Hause of Holt. Funeral services will be held at Holt Presbyterian church at 2 p.m. Friday, with Rev. Vernon Smith officiating. Interment will bee at Maple Ridge Cemetery. The body will be at Estes-Leadley Holt Chapel until Friday noon.
