Matthias first wife, Rachel Farnsworth, and his oldest child Joseph, were killed by Indians at Mendon, MA 10 July 1675, the first victims of King Philip's War. Mathias served in this war.

Other ch. he had, and ano. w. Mary, as by his will of 23 Apr. 1714 we learn. The ch. were John, James, Jonathan, and Esther, wh. m. 2 June 1697, William Sumner of Milton.
