Matthew St. John was of the company who bought Ridgefield, Conn oft he Indians. He was chosen lister Dec. 19 1716, and surveyor Dec. 20 172 2. On Apr. 6 1723 he sold his whole right at Ridgefield and settlledat Py mpawaug now in the town of Wiltom, Conn. He and his wife were members of the first Congregation Church, Norwal k, Conn.in 1725. On Feb 13 1732, the names of Matthew St. John and wife were includ ed in a list of members of the church at Wilton, Conn. He was chosen as cl erk of the society at Wilton and served as such from 1731 to 1745, when ha ving bought, Mar.5, 1745, a farm of Samuel Comstock about two miles nor th of Sharon Village for 655 lb., old tenor. The church record of their re moval dates June 1745, in which he is called captain and soon after comi ng to Sharon he was chosen by the church to be their thirddeacon.
