Matthew Gillespie Sr., b. abt. 1695 in N. Ireland or Scotland, apparently traveled from Ireland with the Pickens family. "Matte Gillespie" is shown in the Records of the Dutch Reformed Church, Bensalem, Bucks County, PA, as a newcomer from Ireland (along with members of the Pickens family and others) being received by certificate and chosen an elder. Matthew married Lucy Pickens in the Abington Presbyterian Church in Pennsylvania in Sept., 1722.
