•ID: I10243 •Name: Mathias AMBROSE •Sex: M •Note: Mathias was the recipient of 170 acres, part of "Arnold's Chance", from his parents in 1759, which he sold in 1761. In 1771 he bought 100 acres of "Arnold's Delight" from his brother, Henry; but when he sold this land in 1778 he was said to be "of Ayr Twp., Bedford Co., Pennsylvania." It is not known when Mathias moved to Bedford Co.; however, he served in the Bedford Co., Militia, Capt. Taggert's Co., as a Private on the frontiers from 1778 to 1783. He was appointed tax collector for Ayr Twp. in 1784. [MEA]

Two of his sons, John and Mathias, were named his executors. Twenty-eight years later, his estate had not yet been settled. His son, Jacob, and his daughter, Barbara MILLER, petitioned the court for Letters Testamentary. They said that John had died, and Mathias had "moved from Pennsylvania eight or ten years ago." After due publication, the sheriff testified that Mathias could not be found, and the court discharged him as executor. But that same year, 1836, Mathias and his wife sold land in Dublin Twp., Bedford Co., which she had inherited from her father, and at that time they were living in Washington Co., PA.
