    Mary W. Lees, 833 Grand, Ames, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, June 25, 1986, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. She was 59.
    Mary Lees was born December 30, 1926 in Howard, Kansas, to Leslie and Bertie (Anderson) Wisner. She was proceeded in death by her parents, and is survived by seven children: Mary Kay Hennessey, Fayette, NC; Marty Lees, Denver CO; Debbie Lane, Independence, KS; Judy Johnson, Owatonna, MN; Susan Lees, Fayetteville, NC; Rebecca Lees, Denver, CO; and David Lees, Iola, KS, their families, including five grandchildren, Sarah; Eleanor and Joseph Hennessey; Dusty Lane and Matthew Johnson; two brothers, Ken Wisner, Solomons, MD and Paul Wisner, Huntsville, AL
    Mary received her Masters Degree in Sociology from Iowa State University in 1973, was appointed Academic Advisor in 1973. She was very active in Campus activities and received the following awards in recognition of her accomplishments: 1985 Outstanding Advisor for the College of Science and Humanities (the first professional advisor so recognized); one of the recipients of ISU Alumni's Distinguished Service Award in 1985; 1985 award from the Office of Student Life on Campus, as the one person in the university community who had contributed the most to the area of Human Relations; 1978 Outstanding Academic Advisor by the Student Alumni Association; 1978 ISU Excellence in Advising Award.
    Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ames, and was deeply involved in the life of the church and of United Methodist Women on the local, district and conference level. In 1978 she was appointed as the part-time lay pastor of the Mackey Iowa United Methodist Church and served in that capacity for three years. She was currently serving on the Conference Commission on the Role and Status of Women, having chaired the subcommittee on Inclusive Language. She served on many other committees and is a past Christian Social Relations officer of the Iowa Conference United Methodist Women.
    Other organizations include: National Organization of Women; American Civil Liberties Union; the Daughters of Sarah; Chapter CZ, P.E.O.; and a 1948 Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Kansas. She also co-edited sever books, 9 readings in Sociology and the family and edited several newspapers. She also served as a member of the Board of Directors on the Story County Committee on Criminal Justice, 1975-89; and was voted one of Story county's Most Outstanding Women in May, 1986.
    There was a "Celebration of Life" memorial service for Mary Lees at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 1986, at First United Methodist Church in Ames. Fellowship and sharing of food and memories followed the service.
    A memorial was established with the ISU Alumni Achievement Foundation, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa 50010 for the Mary W. Lees Scholarship Fund for adult women majoring in sociology at Iowa State University.
    Adams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
