  1. Obituary --BERTIE WISNER
    Bertie Leanore Wisner was born in Howard, Kansas April 26, 1981, the first of three daughters of Santford Ulysses and Alta Jane Anderson. She passed away November 30, 1981 at the Elk Manor Nursing Home where she has been a resident since April 1975.
    Bertie graduated from Howard High School in 1909 attended Kansas State Normal at Emporia and on receiving her Certificate taught at Merry Bell School north of Howard for four years.
    On April 22, 1914 she married her high school sweetheart Leslie Bryon Wisner who passed away in 1961.
    To this union were born Kenneth, Paul and Mary Arlene who survived and Karl Alwyn who died in 1921.
    Bertie joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at the age of 13 and always loved her church. She became Cradle Roll Superintendent in 1916, which task she served until moving to Wichita during World War II. She belonged to the Lamplighters Circle and she and Leslie were charter member of Class 10.
    Bertie believed in her community and enjoyed the friendship of countless people in many organizations. She became a Rebekah in 1909 and was Past Noble Grant of that Lodge. She was Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Columbia Chapter 142 and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Coffee Club and the BPW. Bertie loved doing things for others and leaves a host of relatives and friends who can only remember. She will also be remembered by her friends at Elk Manor where she received loving care during her long illness.
    She is survived by sons Kenneth of Solomons, Maryland and Paul of Huntsville, Alabama; daughter Mary Lees of Ames, Iowa; and sister Olive Vice of Wichita. She also leaves thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five nephews and one niece.
    Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 1981 at the Zimmerman Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Lynn of the Howard Methodist Church officiating. A memorial service was conducted by the Howard Rebekah Lodge No. 154.
    The casket bearers were Adron Hebe, John Batson, Glen Jontra, Elwood Miller and Paul Moore. Mrs. Robin Smith was the organist with Carmlita Beaty singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset." I
    nterment was held in the Grace Lawn Cemetery at Howard. The arrangements were made by the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
