Mary Warner indicated that she was born around 1831 at Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire, although no birth or baptism record has yet been found for her. She also sometimes gave her maiden name as Walker, whereas her marriage certificate gives her father's name as John Warner. It seems quite likely that she was born illegitimately as Mary Walker, daughter of Ann Walker, and took her stepfather's name when Ann Walker married John Warner in 1835.
Mary's first confirmed sighting is in 1841, when the census finds her living with John and Ann Warner at America Place in Leighton Buzzard with three other children.
On 10th November 1850, Mary married William Linney. They went on to have at least ten children together. They lived in various different addresses around Leighton Buzzard, appearing at a different address in each census. Mary worked as a straw plaiter, whilst William was an agricultural labourer.
William died in 1893. Mary survived him by fourteen years. She appears in the 1901 census living with her widowed daughter Caroline (whose married name was also Linney - she had married a John Linney in 1873). Mary died on 26th April 1907.
