Mary's maiden name and origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 20th May 1782 when she married a farmer called George Males at Pirton in Hertfordshire. She was a widow called Mary Dawson at the time of this marriage. George was a widower, having been married twice before.

Mary and George went on to have three children baptised at Pirton between 1783 and 1788.

Mary died in 1806, being buried at Pirton on 21st October 1806. Her burial record does not say how old she was. George outlived her by 34 years.
