Mary's maiden name and origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is on 15th January 1780, when she married George Males at Codicote in Hertfordshire. It was not her first marriage, and she was described as Mary Childs, widow.

Mary died less than three months after her marriage to George Males. She was buried at Codicote on 8th April 1780.
