↑ Many sources (e.g., Source:Densmore, Lyman Willard. Hand-Book of Hartwell Genealogy, 1636-1887, p. 103, identify Mary as the woman who married 1725 Joseph Hartwell. However, the probate of her brother Thomas shows the wife of Joseph Hartwell was Thomas's widow Mary. The distribution of the estate of this Mary's father, Thomas Tolman, does not mention a daughter Mary or any heirs of hers, which would have been impossible if she had married Joseph Hartwell whose wife d. 1782 and had several children with him.
