Isabella was a full blooded American Indian named Mary Isabell Shaw who married a fellow Indian named Jewell.

George married Miss Belle Jewell on Aug. 19 1882 but family records say that he married Isabella Jewel who had married a Mr. Jewell when she was 15, and Mr Jewell had died in the Civil War. The family story also says that Isabella was born on the Dec 20 1850 in Missouri, died on Nov 22 1908 in Cherokee and buried at Mt Hope Cemetery, Marquoketa, Iowa.
