In 1895, Source:Bunker, Mary Powell. Long Island Genealogies, on p. 272 shows no marriage for Mary Prior, and on p. 181, she says Stephen Birdsall m. Mary, no maiden name specified. In 1914, Source:Cocks, George William. History and Genealogy of the Cock, Cocks, Cox Family, p. 290, says Mary "m. ?Stephen Birdsall". In 1948, Source:Wilson, Edith King. Bowne Family of Flushing, Long Island, p. 4, says Mary Prior m. Stephen Birdsall. In 1955, Source:Hook, James W. Smith, Grant, and Irons Families of New Jersey's Shore Counties, p. 174, says Stephen Birdsall (s/o Nathan) m. Mary "whose maiden name was not found". It appears that Wilson reported a clearly marked guess as a fact, but that the consensus is that there is no real evidence of this marriage. Whoever she was, the widow of Stephen Birdsall m. (2) David Allen of Shrewsbury (NYGBR, vol. 6, p. 103).
