Funeral services were held in her home with the Rev. D. D. Reynolds conducting. Burial was in Rothville Cemetery. She was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. M. Manlove, born in Indiana, who came to Missouri when she was two years old, locating on a farm near Mendon. In 1891 she married Alex F. Semple. She is survived by her husband; three daughters Miss Ruth Semple of the home, Mrs. Ira Kaye, Sumner and Mrs. C. J. Austin of Mendon; two brothers E. P. Manlove, Rothville, and J.A. Manlove, Flat Rock, Mich. One child preceded her in death.

8. Mary Semple's grandson, Ralph Austin, tells of watching her sit on her back stoop, tending to her garden produce, with a shotgun at her side. When the opportunity was presented she would trade produce for the shotgun and knock down wild birds (most likely doves as the area has a high population) in flight. The birds went into the stew pot along with the vegetables.
