JOHNSON, Mary, d. Thomas and Mary, [born] Feb. 11, 1659. [Note: given marriage in 1657, and next child in 1662, it is not clear whether this is 1658/59 or 1659/60. Spacing might suggest the later, Mary's own marriage in 1673 might suggest the former??]
↑ Many unknowns remain about Mary. Source:First Three Generations of Holts in America, p. 208, says it was the daughter of Thomas Johnson and Mary Holt that married Return Johnson, but then provides two reasons for thinking maybe that identification might be wrong. First, and most importantly, neither her nor any heirs are granted a share in the settlement of her father's estate in 1724, and second, "she had barely passed her fourteenth year" when she married, unusually young. Source:Tilden, William S. History of the Town of Medfield, Massachusetts, 1650-1886, p. 420, says in its coverage of Return Johnson, "the death of his widow [i.e., Mary] is not recorded, but was probably about 1713". It is not clear what might have happened in 1713 to form the basis for that statement. See also the comment on the Family page about the parentage of Roger Johnson.
